Because of the geological and relief specificities, Kalnik has a heterogeneous flora. Valuable and beautiful nature is recognized and protected by law through Protected landscape Kalnik. Within the protected area, on the most beautiful parts of Kalnik nature, the Instructive Trail has been put in order. The trail will show you interesting herbal species, often endemic, which is Kalnik abound in. It tells the geological history of Kalnik. On the Belvedere it shows the geographical position of Kalnik compared to the other hills in northwestern Croatia, and you can experience the spirit of history on the remains of the former parish church of St. Martin with a votive stone and an archeological site from the Bronze Age.
The Instructive Trail was made by the mountaineers of the Hiking club Kalnik under the guidance of a great nature admirer mr. Ivan Đuričić and prof. dr. Đuro Rauš.
The trail is about 5000 meters long, on a height of 480-520 meters above the sea-level, it has a circular shape.
The trail goes around the biggest ridge on Kalnik. The tour takes 2-3 hours of slow walk. The trail begins and ends at the Mountaineering lodge. For the full educational character of the instructive trail we recommend buying the guidebook. The guidebook can be bought in the Mountaineering lodge or in the Tourist office.
On the belvedere there is a view on Medvednica, Ivanščica, Ravna gora, Petrova gora, Papuk and Psunj.
